Words

Prayers

Short prayers for the in-between moments. Borrow them; they were never really ours.

morning

A Morning Prayer

Good morning, Lord. Thank You for the sleep that restored me. Thank You for the day that begins again. Help me to live it slowly. Help me to live it kindly. Help me to remember, in the small hours of the afternoon, that the same love that woke me this morning is still waking me up, all day long. Amen.

evening

An Evening Prayer

Lord, this day is done. Whatever I did well, thank You. Whatever I did poorly, forgive me. Whatever I did not get to, let it go. Let me sleep now, in the same hands that held me this morning. Amen.

anxiety

For Anxiety

Lord, my chest is tight. My mind is loud. I do not have the words. Let my breath be the prayer I cannot say. Let Your peace meet me in the noise. I cast the worry on You now. Receive it. Amen.

gratitude

For Gratitude

Thank You, Lord, for the small things I noticed today: the coffee, the laugh, the light, the small kindness that I almost missed. For the breath that came easy. For the breath that did not. For all of it — the seen and the unseen — thank You. Amen.

forgiveness

For Forgiveness

Lord, I have held this long enough. I am laying it down now. Not because it did not matter. But because it does — and I am tired of carrying it on my own. Help me to forgive, even a little, and trust You with the rest. Amen.

strength

For Strength

Lord, I do not feel strong today. I feel tired, and old, and small. Be my strength. Not the kind that performs, but the kind that quietly holds on when everything else is letting go. Amen.

rest

For Rest

Lord, I am tired. Not just the body — the soul. Let me lie down now, in the green pasture You promised. Let the still water be enough. Let me stop, for a while, being the one in charge. Amen.

other

When I Do Not Know What to Pray

Lord, I do not have the words today. So I will just sit here. Let the silence be the prayer. Let the breath be the prayer. Let me be the prayer. Amen.

other

Before a Hard Conversation

Lord, I have to do something hard today. Be in my mouth before I speak. Be in my ears before I listen. Soften me, where I would harden. Open me, where I would close. Amen.

forgiveness

When I Cannot Forgive Myself

Lord, I am harder on myself than You are. I am keeping a record You have already closed. Help me to receive, today, the same grace I would offer a friend. Amen.

anxiety

For a Troubled Mind

Lord, the thoughts are loud tonight. Let me not be ruled by them. Let me be ruled by Your peace instead. In Jesus' name, I lay them down. Amen.

rest

For a Weary Parent

Lord, the children are loud, and the work is unfinished, and I am tired. Thank You that I am loved, even when I am not at my best. Thank You for the long patience of parenthood, which is, perhaps, a small image of Yours. Help me to rest soon. Help me to not feel guilty when I do. Amen.

morning

For the Beginning of a Practice

Lord, I am showing up. That is all I can promise today. Meet me here, in this small beginning. Let it be enough. Amen.

other

For a Friend in Trouble

Lord, I cannot fix what they are going through. But I can sit with them in it. Help me to be Your hands today — quiet, present, kind. Amen.

evening

For When the Day Has Been Long

Lord, the day is over, and I am glad of it. Forgive me for the moments I was not kind. Thank You for the moments I was. Let me rest now, in the only home I have: Your presence. Amen.

gratitude

For Joy, Unearned

Lord, today something small made me happy. The way the wind moved. A song on the radio. A face I love, doing something ordinary. I did not earn this joy. Thank You for it anyway. Amen.

anxiety

For the Lonely Hour

Lord, it is the hour of the night when the loneliness is loudest. Be with me now, especially now. You are closer than my own breath. Let me remember that. Amen.

morning

For a New Beginning

Lord, today is new. I do not have to be the same person I was yesterday. I do not have to be perfect today. I only have to begin, again, in the same small, kind way. Amen.

rest

For a Grieving Heart

Lord, the loss is still here. I do not ask You to take it away today. I only ask You to sit with me in it. To be the friend who does not try to fix it, but who just stays. Amen.

evening

Before Sleep

Lord, I am lying down now. Whatever tomorrow brings, I will not face it alone. You have already gone ahead of me, into tomorrow, and You are waiting for me there. Amen.
