The Fruit, in Season
— Galatians 5:22-23
Read at your own pace
The Fruit, in Season
Sit. Hands open. Read the verse slowly.
Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Read each word as a small gift, not a demand.
These are not qualities you are required to produce. They are fruit. And fruit grows in its own time, in the right conditions.
The conditions are these: staying close to the Vine. Staying in the quiet. Letting the gardener do the pruning and the watering.
Which of these words is most needed today? Love, if you are tired. Patience, if you are frustrated. Kindness, if you are angry. Self-control, if you are overwhelmed.
Pick one. Carry it. The others will come in their season.
A prayer
Lord, make me a fruitful branch. Today, especially, grow in me the fruit I most need. Amen.
Scripture
"The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control."
— Galatians 5:22-23
For reflection
Fruit does not grow on demand. It grows in season, slowly, in the dark of the soil. So do we.
