Everlasting Love
— Jeremiah 31:3
Read at your own pace
Everlasting Love
Sit. Hands on the chest. Eyes closed.
Read the verse, very slowly. I have loved you with an everlasting love.
Everlasting. The love is not new. It is not contingent on your performance. It is not a reward for getting it right. It is older than your doubt, older than your failure, older than the morning.
I have drawn you. Not pushed. Not demanded. Drawn. The way the sun draws a flower. The way the tide draws the shore. Slowly. Gently. Without force.
You are not being chased. You are being drawn. There is a difference. The chase makes you run. The drawing lets you be still, and come toward.
Let the breath be the drawing. In: the love that is everlasting. Out: the resistance, let it go.
Stay a few more minutes. The drawing is not finished. The love is not finished. They are still in motion.
A prayer
Lord, I receive the everlasting love. I stop running. I let myself be drawn. Amen.
Scripture
"I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with loving-kindness."
— Jeremiah 31:3
For reflection
Everlasting means before. Before your doubt, before your failure, before the morning.
