A Very Present Help
— Psalm 46:1

A Very Present Help
Sit. Hands on the chest, if that feels right.
Read the verse. God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
Very present. Not eventually present. Not after you have sorted yourself out. Present. Right now. In the trouble, not after it.
What is the trouble today? Name it, if you can. Just a word. Just a shape. The verse does not promise the trouble will go away. It promises Someone is in it with you.
Refuge is not escape. Refuge is a place to stand, a place to breathe, while the trouble moves around you.
Let the breath help. In: I am not alone. Out: I do not have to do this alone.
Stay a few more minutes. The help is very present. It is not going anywhere.
A prayer
Lord, be my refuge today. I will stand here, with You, in the trouble. Amen.
Scripture
"God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble."
— Psalm 46:1
For reflection
Not a distant help. A very present help. The kind that is here, right now, before you have even asked.
