A Single Step
— Joshua 1:9

A Single Step
Sit. Notice the body. Notice the breath.
Bring to mind one thing you have been avoiding. Not the biggest thing. The next thing. The phone call. The email. The decision. The conversation you've been postponing.
You do not have to do it now. You are not being asked to do it now.
But see if you can name it. Just the name. Just the shape of it.
Now — see if you can take one breath into the courage you would need for the smallest version of the next step. Not the whole thing. The smallest version. The first five minutes. The first sentence.
The verse today is not a command to be unafraid. It is a promise: you are not alone in the fear. The Lord your God is with you wherever you go — including the place you have been avoiding.
Let the breath help. One breath for the fear. One breath for the next step. One breath for the promise.
You are not behind. You are not too late. The next step is enough. Today, the next step is enough.
A prayer
Courageous Christ, walk with me into the thing I have been avoiding. Just the next step. Just today. Amen.
Scripture
"Be strong and courageous; do not be frightened or dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go."
— Joshua 1:9
For reflection
Courage is rarely the big leap. It is the small, unglamorous next step, taken anyway.
